Introduction to API 5L Gr.B executive standard and process requirements

1. Gr.B: Grade B steel; implement the API 5L standard, the domestic standard corresponding to the API 5L standard is the GB/T9711 standard, and Gr.B corresponds to the L245 material.
Pipeline steel refers to a type of steel with special requirements for pipelines used to transport oil and natural gas. According to the difference in thickness and subsequent formation, it can be produced by hot tandem rolling mills, Steckel mills, or plate mills. High-temperature and high-pressure alloy steel pipes for main water supply pipes, pipe fittings, bypass systems, etc. And the provision of various piping materials strictly follows the relevant international and domestic standards such as American ASME, ASTM series, German DIN series, and international GB series.
Pipeline steel is a steel plate for pipelines, mainly used for processing and manufacturing oil and gas pipelines. In the process of use, in addition to high compressive strength, hilow-temperatureure toughness and excellent welding performance are also required.

2. Domestic technology
The medium-thick plates and coils used in the manufacture of oil, natural gas gathering, and long-distance pipelines or coal, building material slurry pipelines, etc. are called pipeline steel (steel or pipeline). Generally, medium and thick plates are used to make thick-walled straight seam welded pipes, while coils are used to produce straight seam resistance welded pipes or submerged arc spiral welded pipes. The country has a production capacity of 700,000 t/a spiral welded pipes with a diameter of 180mm and has established a production line for straight seam thick-walled pipes with a diameter of 1600mm. It is only more than 10 years in China that the pipeline steel that meets the pipeline engineering design requirements of API5L standard can be produced
3. Technical process requirements
Modern pipeline steel belongs to low-carbon or ultra-low-carbon micro-alloyed steel, which is a high-tech and high-value-added product. The production of pipeline steel has almost applied all the new technological achievements in the field of metallurgy in the past 20 years. The development trend of pipeline engineering is large pipe diameter, high-pressure rich gas transportation, high-cold and corrosive service environment, and thick-walled submarine pipelines. Therefore, modern pipeline steel should have high strength, low Bauschinger effect, high toughness and resistance to brittle fracture, low welding carbon content and good weldability, and resistance to HIC and H2S corrosion. The optimized production strategy is to improve the cleanliness and structure uniformity of steel, C≤0.09%, S≤0.005%, P≤0.01%, O≤0.002%, and adopt microalloying, vacuum degassing CaSi, continuous casting process Soft reduction, multi-stage thermomechanical roll, ing, and multi-functional intermittent accelerated cooling processes. There is no toughness index for pipeline steel in domestic and foreign pipeline specifications, only for pipes.
1. Specific requirements:
(1) At the lowest operating temperature (-5) DWTT≥85%SA;
(2) At the lowest operating temperature (-5) Charpy impact absorption energy ≥ 145J.
The technical conditions of pipeline steel generally adopt the American Petroleum Institute standard APISpec5L, but the technical conditions of domestic specific projects or specific users are often much stricter than API standards.
2. There are strict requirements for smelting technology, and the technical difficulties mainly focus on:
1) Content control of impurity elements;
2) Inclusion control;
3) Narrow component control.
3. Production process of line pipe
Welded steel pipes are mainly divided into three processes: electric resistance welding (ERW), spiral submerged arc welding (SS, AW) and straight seam submerged arc welding (LSAW). The welded pipes produced by these three processes have then positions in the application field due to their different raw materials, forming processes, caliber si, sizes, and qualities.
